Our history

Svalbard Busservice AS was founded in 1995 and later; Svalbard Buss og Taxi AS was founded in 1998. Both companies are subsidiaries of LNS Spitsbergen AS and part of the LNS Group. We are proud to offer safe and reliable passenger transport services for both residents and visitors to Longyearbyen.

Svalbard Buss og Taxi has taxis, minibuses and buses with varying passenger capacity from 1-60 passengers. Larger groups are transported with one of our 15 buses. The company also offer approved special transport for wheelchair users. We also offer sightseeing tours twice a day.

The LNS Group's history

Leonhard Nilsen & Sønner (LNS) was established in 1961 by Malvin Nilsen and his father, Leonhard Nilsen. Since its inception, the company has grown from being a traditional, Northern Norwegian family business to a group that, in 2024, consists of 14 companies.

The journey to becoming the group we see today, with approximately 750 employees and a turnover of around NOK 2.7 billion, has been an exciting one, marked by numerous milestones.

The headquarters of LNS is located in Andøy, Norway, and the groups projects can be found in Norway, Antarctica, Hong Kong, Chile, as well as in Svalbard, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. In other words, LNS operates from the North Pole to the South Pole.
Our global operations are made possible because we excel at recognizing and creating opportunities. We are reliable, firmly rooted in Northern Norwegian values, while also being bold, innovative, and willing to pursue exciting projects regardless of their geographical location.
